I was struck by a thought while brushing my son's hair this weekend - "wonder if brushing hair is the gateway to the must-you-be-pretty-you-can-suffer-pin mentality girls have just accepted while guys can't imagine at all to find yourself in painful treatments and uncomfortably tight and impractical clothes?â

My son has on several occasions during his nearly eight-year-long life decided to save up for long hair. All the times have ended with him cutting his hair when it becomes difficult to brush his hair. If it hurts, it's not worth it.

But for many girls, cutting off their long hair is unthinkable. They simply find themselves in the agony of hair brushing, and are taught early that one must undergo this painful treatment in order to be beautiful.
